Attention: Interested homebuyers/sellers looking for a great real estate agent

RE: Patricia Van Wagner & Jeff Williamson

Once in a while I find I am truly impressed with someone’s willingness to provide a higher level of service than what is often the norm today. I therefore wanted to write a letter to demonstrate the appreciation my wife and I have for the hard work that Jeff Williamson and Patricia Van Wagner did on our behalf over a three month period in late 2011.

Over the past decade or so, my wife and I have bought, sold and rented several properties in both rural and urban locations in Southern and Central Ontario. We have always found the process of buying or selling the right house enjoyable but not without what should have been avoidable frustration. Our agents never seemed to demonstrate a keen interest in wanting to work very hard for us. The inevitable almost expected commission cheque being the sole compelling factor getting them to move. That extra mile or new idea was never in scope. More often than not our own due diligence and drive was required to produce the end result.

In September 2011 we decided to drive to Caledon to look at a rural property. At the last minute we called the agent representing a 2nd property we thought we would see while there. Pat and Jeff were able to change their schedules with short notice and get us into see the house. We made it clear to Jeff at the time we were doing our homework and had not committed to move as of yet. My wife and I are both is sales so we knew we had just clearly communicated to Jeff was that we were not serious buyers, at least not yet.

We liked Jeff’s professionalism, experience and casual demeanor and decided we wanted to enlist Jeff to help us discover if moving out of Toronto was right for us. That would mean the Jeff and Pat team would represent both the buyer and seller should we buy the home Jeff showed us that day.

Jeff agreed to help us out and both Pat and Jeff became our “sounding board” over the next few months. We asked them to show us almost 20 properties through King City, Aurora and Caledon. Pat and Jeff would diligently track down the answers to the many questions we had. They voluntarily provided details on each of the neighbourhoods and regions we investigated including schools, hospitals, biking trails, municipal issues and retail establishments. Essentially they helped us with our decision to move. What was surprising to me was never once did they put any pressure on us. They figured out how to give us that perfect balance of space to make our own decisions, yet always left us with the clear understanding they were there to help, which was all the more astonishing given the fact that during this time together we never really committed to actually moving.

Our initial interest in the first house that Jeff showed us became the house we wanted. Jeff knew the sellers fairly well and decided to break with tradition and introduce us. I believe it was his ability to read both groups personalities very well that made that move a wise choice. Most agents would not think outside the box and I am truly grateful Jeff made that choice. Jeff and Pat were able to create a deal that left both the buyer and seller pleased with the sale. That feat was not an easy one given the different situations that existed. I do not think we would have come to an agreement on the purchase and sale of the Caledon property without that face to face meeting. They have continued to offer their help as we get ready to close the deal, and prepare to establish a new life in Caledon.

For those of you looking for a dedicated supportive real estate agent (or in this case team), I suggest you look up these two and have a discussion. They know their business and are not afraid to offer opinion. They listen and deliver what you ask for. It is that reason why we both would recommend them to our closest friends thinking of moving, and why they will be joining us for a celebration when we move our family into our new home.
